Hello All!
When the attending doctor does surgery on his patient and he decides to bill the surgery (w/global days) and not the days in the hospital, as the attending doctor can he still bill for the discharge date? I didn't think so but their is a difference of opinion in the office. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I think if I understand what you're saying, the patient had a procedure in the hospital that has global days. That would make the discharge global to the procedure, unless the patient has other problems listed in the discharge summary for which the doctor is doing additional workup (rare though). Examples would be pacemaker implants--you can't bill the discharge, although you'd have to report the 99024 for that day.
