Fellow Urology Coders:
Patient came in for foley catheter removal. The balloon would not deflate after several attempts. The urologist placed a vaginal speculum for better visualization and used a 18 gauge needle (after local anesthesia was given) which was then passed through the vaginal epithelium into the balloon. The balloon then decreased in size and was pulled through the urethra.
I realize that there is no CPT code for removal of foley catheters; simple or complicated. Would this be included in a E/M service?
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks!
