Our practice employs Nurse Practitioners and Dietitians. The NPs have always performed the biometric screening exams and billed for them, but this year, the Dietitians are asking to also perform some of these screenings. They are able to perform the CLIA waved testing, but I can find a definite answer on whether they are able to bill for the Preventative Counseling code 99401. They all have NPIs and can bill insurance- but are there any restrictions on 99401 requiring a particular practitioner?
