When giving anitemetics or antinauseants the "payable" diagnosis is nausea although this is the condition the drug(s) are preventing. Nausea is not listed in the medical record as a diagnosis for each encounter since the medicine is working. Does anyone have a definitive reference source to give me guidance in this area?

Thank you

I f you are administering this at the same encounter as Chemo to preven nausea then you can only code the V58.xx code and the neoplasm dx, it is customary to do this and sometimes it is not reimbursed.
