If a dialysis patient dies mid month and the CA was done, what date range and procedure code are used? Any information would be appreciated.

I have worked in a nephrology clinic billing dept for 12 yrs and i do know that when a pt expires you first would see if the comprehensive review (care plan) was done- if you have that then you would bill by the month, if the pt expires before the care plan was done then you would bill 90970 (by day) and include any full days that the pt was under your providers care. Esample-pt passes on the 9th w/ a care plan you would bill 909** from the 1st through the 8th if there is no care plan then you would bill by day 90970 from the 1st through the 8th.
