If providers do diagrams using EHR of a patients injury. For example, cut on foot, they would have a picture of a foot and show where the laceration is located and size. Does doing this have a factor in what billing code is used? I have a provider that uses this a lot but now he is asking is it worth his time to draw the picture, does he get credit for it or not???

Thanks!

Is this the only place ...

Is this the only place he documents the size of the wound? The size of the wound is necessary for accurate coding of laceration repairs, lesion removals, etc.

However, he could just as easily add that information to his handwritten or dictated note.

Our burn cases always use a diagram to show the TBSA, but we ALSO ask that they specify the TBSA in their written report.

Hope that helps.

Yes, he documents in notes as well. Just wondering if also adding a picture will help or add to the visit. Thanks!
