My physicians would like to schedule a diagnostic arthroscopy to determine whether a uniknee or a total knee replacement should be done. This will be done 2 - 3 weeks prior to the replacement surgery. I know the diagnostic would be bundled into the replacement if done same day. Is the arthroscopy billable since it's not being done same day? Where can I find supporting documentation either way? All help is greatly appreciated!

Yes, a diagnostic procedure is often done to determine the extent needed for the formal surgery. I am curious why you would need supporting documentation beyond your CPT guidelines....just wondering is all.

I was hoping you'd answer my question. Thank you!

I should have been more clear in my reasoning for additional documentation and I apologize. It was for my physicians and I'd need it if the answer wasn't to their liking and/or certain payers wouldn't pay for it. Since that isn't the case, I'm good.

Thank you, again! You've been a huge help!:D
