What diagnosis code would be most appropriate for
POSTOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Mononeuropathy, left superomedial and superolateral genicular nerves.
I went to Mononeuropathy Lower Limb Specified Not Elsewhere Classified and felt G57.82 to be the most appropriate, however the Physician’s office sent over G58.8 and they have sent in a pre-approval request to Medicare with G58.8
Is there something I am missing as to why G58.8 would be more appropriate? I think this may have something to do with an LCD however I cannot locate specific details for our MAC Jurisdiction and our Facility does not have access to electronic coding tools.
OPERATIONS PERFORMED:
1. Insertion of left superomedial genicular nerve neurostimulator lead.
2. Insertion of left superolateral genicular nerve neurostimulator lead.
3. Insertion of implantable pulse generator using tunneling technique
INDICATIONS: This patient presented with intractable mononeuropathy of the superomedial and superolateral genicular nerves. The patient had excellent relief with PNS trial and was counseled as to the risks, benefits, complications, and reasonable alternatives to the above-listed procedure and expressed the desire to proceed, and informed consent was obtained
Thank you for taking the time to read, and I appreciate any feedback you may offer.
