Does anyone know what diagnosis code to use when the provider puts bilateral stents in for another surgeon just so they can identify the ureters during surgery?
thanks

Placing the stents is the procedure CPT. Use the diagnosis for what the procedure is being done for. for example: ureteral obstruction.

The patient was actually there for an extensive back surgery being done by a different physician and the spine surgeon wanted the urologist to place stents prior to his surgery for identification. Would it still be the same diagnosis as the spine surgeon has?

I was told by the AUA to use 52005 with the main procedure diagnosis and V53.99. Hope this helps.
