Hi. There is something I am not quite clear on regarding DMO points. Is the number of points supposed to come from the chief complaint? Or from the diagnosis? If the chief complaint is "heel pain" but the diagnosis is "plantar fasciitis, heel spur, and pronation of feet"... is that ONE condition (heel pain) or three?
I should know this. Maybe I'm just confusing myself.
Appreciate your help.

The points are based on the diagnosis, not necessarily the chief complaint. In the absence of a definitive diagnosis, they may include general symptoms while they await test results. Sometimes the provider lists the diagnosis, and they also list general symptoms of it.... in that case I just give them credit for the definitive diagnosis. If they have other symptoms that are not necessarily part of that diagnosis (as may be the case in your example) then I would give points for them, as long as there is an assessment of them.

I hope that helps, Ruth!
