Wiki Diabetic foot eval

I am getting some conflicting information and wonder if anyone can set me straight.. Are G0245/G0246 required by Medicare for diabetic foot evals or can CPT e/m codes be used instead?

If there is a G code that describes the service. Medicare will want the G code over the CPT code

Glad you asked this question. I just spoke to Medicare today about these codes and I was told that these codes are rarely covered by Medicare in most circumstances. They were not able to give me very much info on them. My provider was wondering if we should use these codes instead of the cpt codes.

Is anyone billing these successfully? What is Medicare's reason for not paying?
And what about commercial payers? Do they accept the G codes?
