Patient has diabetes type II uncontrolled and hypertensive CKD
Would I shift the Dx code for the diabetes to 250.42?
My ICD-9 reads as follows under 250.42:
Use additional code to identify manifestation, as:
chronic kidney disease (585.1-585.9) diabetic:
nephropathy NOS
nephrosis
It seems as if there's some missing punctuation (I'm thinking the word "diabetic" I supposed to have been dropped down to its own indentation), but my reading of this is that CKD is definitely a renal manifestation of diabetes, but general nephropathy/nephrosis has to be stated as diabetic
Summary: do all of my patients with diabetes and CKD need to have their diabetes code changed?
