Hello,
My provider gave 40mg of Depo to the patient's bilateral sciatic nerve and again 40mg of Depo to the patient's thoracic spine. He coded it like this: 20600, J1030 x 2.
I think this is incorrect because 20600 represents a small joint or bursa injection. I believe this should be coded with 20553 (trigger point injections to 3 or more muscle areas) because he is injecting the bilateral sciatic nerves and also the thoracic spine which to me that's 3 different muscle areas.
As far as the Depomedrol I'm not sure if I should just advise my provider to code it as J1040 x 1 which represents 80 mgs of Depomedrol instead of J1030 (40 mg) x 2.
Any type of input would be kindly appreciated.
