Hello,

Medicare has required a modifier FX on all x-rays that are not digital; meaning film x-rays. Our clinics are digital, so we are not adding the FX modifier to the x-rays; yet we are still getting a denial for no modifier. I have tried to find articles about using a modifier for digit x-ray but haven't had any luck. The clinic own the equipment and read their x-rays. Does any one have any suggestions or experiencing the same issues?

Thank you

My understanding is that the -FX is only needed if film is used because it comes with a payment reduction. If the system is digital then the reduction would not be effective. I would suggest calling and finding out why they are denying it. It might just be an error on Medicare's part.
