Hi everyone,
I work in B&H and a lot of the providers are only putting dx as f29 or f09 for the claim. I am not sure where to go from here because per guidelines we need a primary code relating to this but the documentation does not specify. We tried doing the R41.82 as a primary code with the f29 or f09 but still came back denied. Any advice will help! Thank you

Hi Mcardinal1030,
First Id let the therapist look at sections of ICD10 manual. This can hold tips for them .The dx block F10-F19 be specific in types of sub abuse, and dx F31-F32 differ types of depression (mixed remission, mild, severe) and Dx block F41 defines Anxiety & PTSD F34 dx.

However using dx. F09 and F29 about same thing...mental disorders but unspecified. Payers do not want to pay on these factors. The therapist need to give more data & detail on why patient is suffering a beh.health issue; not just pop in F09 or F29 dx. It helps if describe signs& symptoms in documentation too . Is it Depression F32-F33 or Anxiety dx F41 plus reason due to illness or family problems see Dx Z60-Z63 and dx blocks of R45 - R46. Or just stressed & why see dx F43 blocks& Z56. Is it Grief dx F41 or Antisocial behavior dx F60 or constant sleep disorders or insomnia dx G47 block or Bipolar F31 or suffering with some type of Cancer or chronic condition as body back pain Etc or Chronic Pain Syndrome G89 dx block. They really need to give more details on the symptoms and signs of mental illness.
I hope this data helps
