Hi,

I am looking for an Unspecified Dementia code. I am not sure if that exists. Can anybody help me please.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you look in the ICD-9-CM book before posting this question? If you look at the Index of your book under Dementia, it refers you to the default code of 294.8. If you go to code 294.8 in the Tabular List, it states Dementia NOS under the code description.

I am sorry, Isn't that due to conditions classified else where. Does dementia always have to be under some diseases and never exist by itself? I am not sure I tried to find out but couldn't figure out the right answer. So am just making sure.

Just so you know, though, NOS means Not Otherwise Specified aka unspecified. Just checking the Tabular section of your book would have verified the code selection for you. You may just want to review the coding conventions that should be in your book. Hope this helps!
