Question:
I have had two patients recently RN delivers baby.
Dr. comes in delivers placenta and will see pt for post partum.
I am throwing around the idea of billing
59400 - 52modifier
I have checked this modifier is appropriate on the cpt per code correct.com
I would like to use that because the Dr did provider prenatal, deliver of only placenta and will provide post partum.
I understand the idea of billing only 59414 delivery of placenta and post partum codes, then we would need to go back and capture prenatal care as well. When I read the coders desk reference for 59414 it states that is a delivery of a retained placenta. The paragraph out of the coders desk reference deters me from wanting ot use this code.
