Our Family Physicians will see a patient during the antepartum period and that patient will end up having a C-section with the OB/GYN dept. Since the Family Medicine physician did the antepartum care, they are requesting to see the patient post-partum in 6 weeks.
Our OB/GYN dept is billing 59515 code and our dept is losing out on the post partum visit (depending on insurance). The OB/GYN coders argue that they are continuing to see the patient in the hospital "post-partum" and we argue this should be considered "global surgical package"
Can you give us any idea in general how this should be? Are the days after delivery, while still in the hospital setting, considered post-partum days or are those days part of the global surgical package? Can you reference anything from your ACOG website to help?
