Pt had two tiny 2mm cysts that the provider removed by using a 19 gauge needle to open the cyst superficially then she used forceps to "pop" the cysts out. I'm confused on if this should be an I&D or excision? She opened the skin which leads me to I&D, but then she popped them out, which leads me to excision? Any suggestions? (cross posted in dermatology section). Thanks!

From what you're describing, it seems shaving of epidermal or dermal lesions would be most appropriate (11300) as the shave codes include "sharp removal of lesions by transverse incision or slicing...without full thickness dermal excision"

Excision of a lesion codes indicate the excision went full thickness through the dermis; I doubt this is this is the case with a 2 mm cyst.

If the entire cyst was not extracted, and only the contents removed, then I&D of cysts (10061) would be appropriate

Hope this helps
