792.0 is for abnormal findings so you definately cannot use that as there were no abnormal findings. Can you code to signs and symptoms for reason for the spinal tap to begin with? Possibly maybe use V80.09?

I think abnormal and unusual can be considered synonyms in this case and 792.0 would be okay. If there is nothing to report, go with the clinical indication for the smear. What was on the requisition?
