Wiki Critical Care in Swing Bed Status

Scenario: Pt is swing bed status. Condition deteriorates and pt is subsequently transferred back to inpt. Physician billed critical care (99291 with 45 minutes documented) and swing bed discharge (99316 with proper time documentation). Can both these codes be billed? Can critical care be charged in this setting?

Critical Care

Critical Care can be provided ANYWHERE as long as these conditions are ALL met:
1) the patient is critically ill
2) the provider is performing critical care
3) face-to-face time spent in providing critical care is documented (at least 30 minutes)

I would be surprised if you would be paid for BOTH 99291 and 99316.
