I'm needing some help because i'm not really sure this is even billable. My ortho PA injected a patient with lidocaine to help relieve some of the pain so that he may examine the shoulder better. He's wanting to charge an 20605 for this but I'm not sure this is correct. I need a little help on this one. Thanks

When the injection is performed to allow the physician better access for the assessment then it is not separately billable, it is by documentation part of the examination. To be separately billable the injection would need to be performed as a definitive treatment for a problem.

I have to agree with Debra 100% on this situation, the purpose of the injection was so the provider could complete his exam. Lidocaine, the drug is only billable if given via and IV route per the HCPCS description.
