Wiki CPT - dry needling of the triceps

We have a physician doing the above procedure during an office visit. Can an orthopedic surgeon bill 97140 ?

Dry needling is only a covered service for OT and PT's. We charge a cash fee in office for this service as only billable by OT and PT. 97140 is not an accurate descriptor of the service being rendered as that is a manipulation code. Dry needling is actually moving a needle in and out of a tendon, trigger point, etc in a specific manner, which is covered only in therapy. In the CPT book the code you selected is strictly under the PT and OT section, therefore not billable by an orthopedist.
