I code these occassionally (88356), and they include PGP9.5 stain (88342) as well. This is typically what I see in my reports:
____________
Fifty micron sections of the two skin biopsies are prepared
and stained with an antibody directed against neuronal
marker PGP9.5. “Linear densities” of intraepidermal nerve
fibers were determined by the method of McArthur et al.,
Arch. Neurol. 55:1513-1520, 1998. Five sections of each
sample were counted and averaged.
Reference values
Specimen Mean Range (Mean +/- SD; 5th percentile)
1. Thigh 6.1/mm 4.7-8.3/mm (21.1 +/- 10.4/mm; 5.2/mm)
2. Distal 4.6/mm 3.0-7.3/mm (13.8 +/- 6.7/mm; 3.8/mm)
Diagnosis
1. SKIN, RIGHT PROXIMAL THIGH, BIOPSY:
- INTRAEPIDERMAL NERVE FIBER DENSITY WITHIN NORMAL RANGE
2. SKIN, RIGHT DISTAL LEG, BIOPSY:
- INTRAEPIDERMAL NERVE FIBER DENSITY WITHIN NORMAL RANGE
