Would it ever be appropriate to bill CPT 33508 for harvest of saphenous vein with CPT range 33517-33523? If so, under what circumstances and will references be shared? Thank you
Denine Williams, CPC, CFPC

Unless I am misunderstanding you, if the harvest is done endoscopically you bill it for all of those codes.
The doctor has to dictate the vein was harvested endoscopically.

You can use the 33508 code for 33510-33516 as well. Conleyclan is right though, just make sure that he dictates that is was done endoscopically. If she/he harvested the upper extremity artery(radial) then you can use 35600 with codes 33533-33536.

I agree, as long as the surgeon dictates that the vein was harvested endoscopically you may bill 33508 with all of those codes. 33508 pays for the endoscopic technique.
