I am coding for pediatric general surgery. I understand the bundling issue with epigastric and umbilical hernia repair done at the same session. My question is would it be appropriate to bill the epigastric hernia repair, then have the surgeon state the surgery took additional time due to repair of umbilical hernia through a seperate site, and append a 22 modifier?
