Anyone here have a CPB?

I've already got a CPC and while I've gotten a couple of interviews, I haven't got enough experience for anyone to take me seriously. The interviewer suggested I get a Billing license on top of my CPC. I'm not convinced this will make a difference.

What do you guys think?

On a related note: WHERE? WHERE CAN I GET SOME EXPERIENCE? I WILL PAY _YOU_ FOR EXPERIENCE! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!

I don't think another certification is going to give you the "experience" that employers want. I have a CPC-A and an AAS in coding and billing. I too have debated about getting another certification hoping to be more "attractive" to potential employers, but I just can't afford to shell out another $300+ for one and still not be considered.

I was asked to interview for a billing and coding specialist position a few weeks ago and the interview went really well. Or so I thought. At the end of the 45-minute interview, the office manager said she wouldn't hire me because I didn't have any experience. It wouldn't have mattered if I had 10 certifications after my name. It didn't matter that I had the determination to take and pass the CPC (on the first try) without experience and before I had finished my degree. They wanted someone with experience (and she said if I had even a year she would have hired me). I actually don't know why they had me come in at all since I was forthright in my cover letter and resume that I don't have experience. Of course, may be she just didn't like me!

As many have suggested, I've been applying to non-coding positions as well but am being turned down for medical records clerk, receptionist, scheduling, etc. And, as still others have posted, even those positions want experience. I'm trying to stay positive and reflect that in my cover letters but feel like I made such a critical financial error in pursuing the degree and certification.

Certification

I agree, it doesnt matter how many certifications you have it really all depends on your experience. I would advise to work your way up in the healthcare industry. It is very hard and many people are seeking to hire, it all matters on who you know.

I was an insurance follow up representative for about 2 years and then finally passed my CPC and decided to move onto a coding position. Since I had experience in billing and reimbursement, I was hired at many places even though I never had any coding experience.

Find what you can, be a medical clerk, receptionist, or something in the medical field to get your foot in the door and gain experience.

Good Luck:)

I have the CPB along with the CPC, but I only went back for the CPB to enhance and expand the knowledge base after already having the billing and coding experience with the CPC.

So no, I don't think the additional credential will substitute for experience, but once you get some experience under your belt don't discount the second billing credential. It was well worth the effort in the job I already have.

And PS, I started out at the Front Desk. Don't give up, get your foot in the door somewhere and build on it. Hang in there. :)
