Hi -- How would I code a patient being seen by the PCP after COVID is resolved but the patient still has pneumonia that was caused by COVID? The guidelines state to code J12.82 for pneumonia due to COVID and to code U07.1 first. BUT, the patient no longer has COVID so I am leery to code U07.1. Help!??

If the physician's documentation clearly says that the pneumonia is due to COVID and the disease is still active at the encounter, then I would code U07.1 even if there is a negative test result at the current encounter. The COVID test may be negative, but the COVID cannot be said to have 'resolved' if the manifestations that it caused are still present. However, if in doubt, you may need to query the provider for clarification.
