Would I need to use the unlisted code 17999? And if so, what should I use for the comparative charge? Any other thoughts out there?
Thanks in advance for your time.
POSTOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS
Perineal abscess status post abdominoperineal resection.
PROCEDURE/OPERATION
Conversion of Penrose drain to Jackson-Pratt with irrigation of wound.
DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE
The patient was brought to the operating room. After attainment of sufficient general anesthesia, he was pretreated with antibiotics and prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion.
Placed face down on the operating room table and exposing the perineal wound just anterior to the coccyx, there was an area of breakdown. The Penrose was retrieved and we made a stab wound laterally and tunneled a new 7 mm Jackson-Pratt into position. Once the Jackson-Pratt was in position, we irrigated the wound with Betadine and peroxide. We then secured the drain with two 2-0 silks. The patient tolerated the procedure quite well.
