Being that Medicare does not pay for consultations, how would I bill for a inpatient consultation? Dr (podiatrist) was called in by admitting physician to evaluate an ulcer on pt's foot.

Check with your medicare carrier. According to NGS J-13 we are to code Initial Hospital Visit, 99221-99223. The admitting physician uses and AI modifier.

If you do a search on the Internet for "Consultation Codes_CMS Guidelines", you will find a pdf. It gives guidance from the Federal Register regarding CMS and Consultations. I tried attaching it, but the file was too large. Hope this helps! :) Only a couple pages, but good guidance.
