Currently in the 2011 CPT coding book for consultations it states under excludes: Another appropriately requested and documented consultation pertaining to the same/new problem;repeat use of consultations codes. Does this mean that physicians can no longer bill another consultation code if has already billed a consultation on this patient even if asked to evaluate the patient again by another provider for the same/new problem:confused: I really need an answer. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if you mean that the same physician is doing another consultation on the same patient for the same requesting physician? I just don't see why that would be necessary. If it's the same diagnosis and the physician has already evaluated the patient for that diagnosis and sent a written summary of his/her findings to the requesting doctor, then why does that dr need to see the patient again for the same problem?
