Wiki Consultation for family history of colon cancer

I am hoping for some insight into this problem...we have a number of patients being referred for "consultation" for family history of colon cancer prior to scheduling colonscopy with NO personal GI symptoms .....is this a billable E/M service? It is my thought that much like E/M prior to screening colonoscopy this is not a billable service...any thoughts?

I understand this the same way you are. There is not a billable code for consultation for family history of colon cancer. If a family member has been dx with colon cancer, there is a genetic test called a Colaris Genetic Testing that the patient that has colon cancer can do if they meet the criteria (and most insurance companies pay for it). This would be my suggestion before going to a doctor for a consultation and having the responsibility of paying for the consultation.
