Goodmorning,

This may seem elementary to some but...
Our GI doc does a colonoscopy by a referral from a PCP. He doesn't see the patient prior to the scope. It's not a screening, but the patient has complaints. Then a few days after the scope is performed the GI doc brings the patient in to discuss the results and to take over care of the patient's complaints. This is a new patient to the GI doc.

Question: Since the GI doc did the colonoscopy before seeing the patient, would the "follow up visit" be considered established, or could it be a new patient?

My Opinion: I believe since the doctor has seen the patient "face-to-face" technically, that it has to be an established office visit.

Any advice, opinions, please?
