 A friend of mine is a nurse for a local doctor's office and she called me seeking help. The person doing the coding for their office is not very familiar with billing and coding so some of the billing she does for medicare is being denied. The problem is they have a nurse practitioner who performs some services for nursing home patients and the doctor has to sign off on every procedure she does before they can submit the claim to medicare otherwise it gets denied. The doctor thinks there should be a way for them to bill for these services without him having to sign off on them first. The reason being this nurse also works for another office where she does the same thing and the doctor there does not have to sign off on the procedures. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

I think Medicare credentials nurse practitioners. Therefore, she should be able to bill under yourself and not the physician. I hope this helps.
