Wiki Complication?

If a MD nicks the bladder while performing a hysterectomy this would not be a complication of surgery, but common...no procedure to correct this...:confused:

If it is common and the surgeon not consider it as a complication to repair, I think we do not need to add any complication code...

Agree with Thara. If the documentation isn't clear whether it's a complication, then you need to ask the provider. A condition that occurs during a surgery doesn't necessarily mean it is a complication.

Also, if it is routinely expected or common, like you stated, than I would not code it as a complication without further documentation.
