Job Description:
Has obtained specialty specific, or multi-specialty specific coding expertise. Responsible for current reading to remain appraised of coding changes, and seek institutional interpretations.
Familiar with the structure of our clinical practice, and makes recommendations on educational/internal control policies to improve compliance plan effectiveness and operational outcomes.
These findings may lead to substantive refunds are the part of the College of Medicine, and/or disciplinary action (for providers/non-provider providers
Essential functions of the job:
Supervise/review work papers and findings of Audit Specialist I.
Acts as auditor-in-charge of segments of audit work plan, responsible for timely completion of work.
Conducts research on regulatory history and current status of regulatory requirements.
Assist in planning process, may participate in information gathering, meetings, compilation of work papers, monitoring provider billing services, compilation of findings.
Contribute to the assessment of risks and compilation of audit narrative describing systems and internal controls. Develop an understanding of the operations, system processes and procedures used in the areas being audited.
Conduct audits and clearly document findings related to work performed.
May actively participate in exit conferences, providing clarification and supporting information as necessary.
Input and review of audit outcomes, proofing and generating reports.
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college course work may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid coding regulations. Licensure and Certifications Certified Professional Coder (CPC) (American Academy of Professional Coders) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS-P) (American Health Information Management Association) or Certified Coding Associate (CCA) (American Health Information Management Association) required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in compliance, and Academic Health Center preferred.
