Two providers in our group saw the same patient at a nursing home on the same day. One provided 45 minutes of psychotherapy, and the other provided a moderate MDM E/M service and 30 minutes of psychotherapy. Our billers keyed in two claims, a 90834 for the first provider and a 99309+90833 for the second provider. Of course, these claims cannot both be filed and NCCI edits indicate that if they were only the 90834 would be paid. My question is, since both providers are in our group and both specialize in behavioral health, are we able to combine the time spent on psychotherapy between the two providers to file a claim for 99309 and 90838 (45+30 = 75 minutes of psychotherapy)? Or are we only able to combine time like that for E/M services? Both are NPPs working under the same physician, one is an LCSW and the other is a PMHNP-BC. Thanks!
