I was wondering how to code this surgery.
My doctor was performing a colonoscopy. While attempting to perform the polypectomy the doctor encountered complications.
"The thickness of the polyp's base would not allow the snare and cautery to transect the polyp. The polypectomy snare was then pushed out and it was removed from around the colonic polyp"
"Under continued inspection of this polyp, it appeared that thee was a perforation just adjacent to the base of the polyp where the snare had been place."
The area of the perforation was a mass.
The patient was then transferred from our Ambulatory Surgery Center to the local hospital.
The same physician than went to the local hospital to perform Segmental resection of sigmoid colon with mass and perforation and primary anastomosis.
How do I consider coding this? I am still new to coding gastroenterology/general surgery so whatever advise you have will be greatly appreciated.
