We are having a debate about the documentation that states, "Metastatic Prostate Cancer with Bone Mets at the L4-L5"

How would you Hem/Onc Experts Code this??

Thank You In Advance ;)

Metastatic Cancer

It all depends on how it is documented and what is being treated. (Got to love those types of answers but ALAS true)

1) Metastatic Prostate Cancer with Bone mets: 185 198.5
2) Bone Mets from prostate cancer: 198.5 185

Bone Mets being treated:
V58.x (either rad or chemo tx)
198.5
185

Hopefully this has cleared up the mud

The 2nd way is perfect! thats something i can understand because of the way its worded. So when Docs say "Mets Prostate" (with no other area docuemented) that doesnt mean its Secondary? as in 198.82?

Thank You

To answer this part of your question: "So when Docs say "Mets Prostate" (with no other area docuemented) that doesnt mean its Secondary? as in 198.82?"

To my knowledge as a rad therapist and coder, I've never heard of a cancer meting TO the prostate. I would assume the doc is referring to mets FROM prostate so I would agree with bethpotratz.
