The hospital where my hospitalists work was evacuated due to a fire. Any thoughts on what they should bill for services for evacuating the patients to another facility?

Depending on what the provider was doing (hands-on care, orders, etc) it may be appropriate to bill the 99499 with medical records and a cover letter explaining the scenario.

I'd suggest getting direction from the hospital on this - the expenses incurred during the evacuation might be covered by the hospital's hazard insurance as related to the fire and might be reimbursed by that policy rather than something that should be billed to the individual patients' medical policies. But I would think also that if the patients were transferred to another facility in this instance, the physicians would bill a discharge E&M service as they would for the work of any other transfer.
