Hello,
The patient was seen a month prior with a DX of screening for Chlamydia infection. After our provider received the positive results from the reference lab, the patient was prescribed medication. On the patient's follow up visit the provider used STD Screening as the DX. Since the patient tested positive for the STD, shouldnt the follow up visit have a diagnosis of Chlamydia? Thank you

Was the patient symptomatic on the first encounter? I just wonder why it was a screening. While resolved conditions are usually coded with follow up V codes, coding clinics state that infections are to be treated as though they are still present for the first follow up visit. If this visit states resolved but the patient us to bee seen again then that visit is coded as a follow up with the V code. So for this visit if it is not known that the condition has resolved the use the infection.
