Wiki Code to dis-embowel patient??

OK, patient comes in with chronic constipation. Dr. has to physically disembowel the patient's rectum. Is this part of the office visit or is there a seperate code for that? Just does not happen that often you know. Thanks for your input.

CPT for Removal of fecal impaction is 45915. You can bill both, just be sure to put a 25 on the E&M code.

45915 can only be used if done under anesthesia. I believe otherwise it is included in the E&M.

If the doctor has to disimpact the patient at the time of the OV - it is included in the E?M

remember to follow the 1995 or 1997 guidelines, you have a good chance to upcode from say a 99212 to a 99213.
