A patient had an evaluation eight months ago, and, through an MRI, it revealed a meniscus tear. However, it looks like no treatment was made towards it. Three weeks ago the pt twisted their knee and felt a pop, now feeling pain in their medial joint line. The pt has now been treated for the meniscus tear. Would I code the dx for any treatment as chronic since the tear was revealed 8 months ago, or acute for the most recent injury to the existing tear? Any advice would be deeply appreciated, thank you!

Yeah, the evaluation was 8 months ago, but I don't know how long before that the pt was dealing w/ it since there wasn't any further details in the pt chart. Thank you very much for your help, I was also leaning towards acute, but wanted a second opinion. :)
