We have heard that CMS is considering eliminating consultation codes from their 2010 fee schedule. Instead all office visits would have to be billed as new or established patient visits. Also in the hospital setting all inpatient visits would have to be billed as either initial or subsequent hospital care.
Has anyone else heard of this? Do you think the proposal will go through?
With the 2010 CPT already gone to print it seems like a little late to making this decision for 2010.
