I code for an Urgent Care and we have patients come in with symptoms of a heart attack so after an exam and sometimes an EKG, oxygen and nitro are given and a squad is called to transport the patient to an ER. Can we charge for supplies for any of this or are the E/M and EKG the only things that can be billed?

Yeah, as long as you own it and are supplying it, you should be able to bill for O2 and Nitro. The facility would have to bill it though, it wouldn't be billed by the physician.

There is really no way to quantify how much O2 was used, but you can charge for the nasal cannula, tubing and nitro. Remember to get the NDC for the nitro. Hope this helps

Aaron, most urgent cares are free standing and therefore there would be no facility fee codes. Also, you cannot bill for the O2 as there is no way to quantify the amount used from the canister.
