Hi all,

We have a patient who received the usual AP, lateral and open-mouth odontoid views, but in addition had flexion, extension and (our question here) left tilt and right tilt open-mouth odontoid views. Would you consider the left and right tilt views the six and seventh views for coding as a 72052? Or are the tilt odontoid views part of the same, neutral positioned odontoid view?
Thanks!

Odontoids are notoriously hard to get, so many images/angles could be tried. I would count these as only one view. So you have a 5 view cervical spine here.

Thanks for the reply--we're really undecided about this one. We know that the odontoid views for Fuchs and open-mouth are separately counted as per ACR, so we were uncertain about the tilt views as they also involve repositioning of the patient. Our techs believe they are separate views (not images of the same view). What's your opinion of this? Does anyone have any literature on billing tilt views? Thanks again...
