Can a licensed PA or NP perform and enter into the EMR the CC and HPI, and then the MD conducting and billing for the clinic visit then review the information collected (and add to, if needed), and the MD bill the E/M service under his NPI? This is mostly for new patients, so “Incident To” would not apply. I have read the Documentation Guidelines, along with numerous other articles/resources, and understand that MA's and other ancillary staff cannot do this part of the History. But cannot find anything specifically on licensed PA or NP. Would appreciate any feedback or resources anyone can offer. Thanks!!

What you have described comes under the definition of a shared encounter which is allowed for est. Patient encounters but not for new patients. Look in CR1776 under shared services
