Recently we performed a bilateral carotid 36222-50 and an abdominal aortagram 75625. This is how we coded the procedure.

We have been contacted by our RMD department stating that 75625 requires a surgical code. I believe in this case they are asking for 36200.

Has anyone coded 36200 in addition to the above codes.

36200 is non selective and 36222 is selective.

I am under the impression that selective placement overrides non selective placement.

Additionally in the case code 36222 includes 36221 and 36200 is bundled into 36221. So it would seem like the 36200 is being coded twice.

RMD said they would just apply a modifier -59 to it since it is for the abdominal aortagram not the carotid angiogram.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions.
