Is there any guidance related to how long a cancer diagnosis would be considered active when treated as follows:
a. Pt receives radioactive seed implant for prostate cancer? My manager indicated that she heard this was indefinite when at a conference, but I can find nothing that corroborates that.
b. Pt receives intravesical chemotherapy for bladder cancer

The seeds never come out but the half life of the radioactivity eventually goes to nothing and this takes a few weeks not indefinite. The cancer is active as long as it is being treated or the disease is still present. The provider will document when the seeds are dormant and if there is still evidence of disease, if no evidence then it is history, if the disease is still present then it is active, if no evidence but they will continue with Lupron then it is still active for as long as the patient is receiving the Luron which can be for several years.
