Need some help here. I have patient that was seen by the doctor for diabetes and depression and had a corneal abrasion that the doctor treated as well. Can you bill for the office visit (99215) and for an exam for eye (92012) on the same day? They both have different dx. Help me please.
 
Modifier 25

Use modifier 25 which is as follows:

Significant, Separately Identifiable Evaluation and Management Service by the Same Physician or Other Qualified Health Care Professional on the Same Day of the Procedure or Other Service.
 
My coding software says there is a CCI edit for these two codes that is not overrideable with a modifier. I would be surprised if they both paid. I would probably just code the 99215 as the higher paying service, and then code anything extra (ophthalmoscopy, etc) as a separate procedure.
